A Brief History of Nebraska Pride Chorus

In June of 2003, the Midland Pride Chorus, based in Holdrege, NE and Nebraskaland Chorus from North Platte, Nebraska were invited to participate in the Music Festival of the States to celebrate the dedication of the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. on Memorial Day 2004.

Midland Pride Chorus, consisting of 26 members, voted to participate in this event.  Shortly after making the decision, the chorus learned that Nebraskaland had also been invited to participate, and the chorus voted to invite Nebraskaland Chorus to join forces and go to Washington D.C. together.  Midland Pride Chorus director, Evie Caldwell, contacted Nebraskaland Chorus and discovered they were without a director and consequently would not have been able to go to the dedication.  They accepted the invitation and plans developed to bring the two choruses together for this momentous occasion.

As the trip plans materialized, it did not take long to determine that everyone loved singing with more voices and each chorus voted to merge permanently as one chorus in May 2004.  The name was officially changed to Nebraska Pride in December 2004.

Rehearsal practices are creative with joint rehearsals held in Lexington, NE the first and third Tuesdays of the month in the Methodist Church.  On the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Tuesday evenings, the eastern part of the chorus meets in the Christian Homes Old Chapel in Holdrege, NE.  The western part of the chorus meet in the Messiah Lutheran Church in North Platte on Thursday evenings.  Joint rehearsals happen weekly in Lexington in preparation for the annual show and before competition.
